Atypical BPPV –The Diagnosis and Treatment Modalities.

Nilotpal Dutta, Soumik Basu

ABSTRACTDix Hallpike   Maneuver  is  performed to diagnose Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and is still relevant in the clinical evaluation of  BPPV. However in clinical practice we routinely get cases of vertigo due to postural changes or head movements which donot follow  the typical sign of  Dix Hall pike test. These patients can be classified of  being  having suffering from Atypical BPPV. The Aim was to    Evaluate   BPPV with negative Dix Hallpike test and the treatment modality  for it. Selection criteria for  our studies were based on perspective  clinical studies done in 64 patients with Atypical BPPV at Dept of ENT  Audio-vestibular unit , in a tertiary care  Hospital for a period of 1 year. Results and observations showed that 56 patients from the study group were symptomatically relieved when Epleys maneuver was performed on them consecutively for 3 days. It is seen that almost 88 % of the patients   suffering from Atypical BPPV showed symptom remission when treated with Canalith Repositioning Maneuver specially the Epleys .Thus Epleys  maneuver can be a treatment modality for patients suffering from BPPV without nystagmus. Patients with a typical history of positional vertigo who shows no nystagmus in Dix hallpike which we often diagnose no not a case of BPPV are actually atypical BPPVs which can be successfully treated by Epleys manoeuvre , a cheap and easy and effective way of treatment . Keywords: BPPV, Nystagmus, Epley’s maneuver, Vertigo , Dix and Hallpike manoeuvre

The Design of Novel Protein Kinase Inhibitors Using the Naturally Occurring Isojacareubin Scaffold As A Lead

Jeanelle Caruana, Claire Shoemake

ABSTRACTTherapeutic areas for Protein Kinase inhibitors include cancer. A study has indicated that isojacareubin, a plant-derived natural product, inhibits Protein Kinase C. This study aimed to design in silico protein kinase inhibitors using isojacareubin as a molecular template. Virtual screening and de novo design were carried out during the study. A total of three hundred hits were produced from virtual screening using the best binding conformer of isojacareubin. Two hundred molecules were generated de novo from each seed structure of isojacareubin. Lipinski Rules compliant molecules were chosen from each study, and thus, were orally bioavailable. The binding affinities (pKd) of the Lipinski Rules compliant molecules produced ranged from 7.16 to 10.00. The molecules require further validation through in silco molecular dynamics and confirmed through in vitro assays. Keywords: Protein Kinase C; Isojacareubin; Bisindolylmaleimide inhibitor; Conformational Analysis; Virtual Screening; De novo.

Design, Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of 2-Aromatic Substituted-1,3-Thaizolidine Derivatives

Krishna Reddy Gayam *, Senthilkumar Palaniappan1. Research Scholar, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sri Venkateshwara University, Gajraula, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh- 244236 , India.2. Department o

ABSTRACTA series of N-{[2-(substituted methylidene)hydrazinyl](methylsulfanyl)methyl}-2-substituted-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxamide derivative were synthesized. The synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, Mass spectral data. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antifungal and antibacterial activity against pathogenic fungus and bacteria. Compounds TS-2, TS-4 and TS-9 exhibited good antibacterial and antifungal activity against the tested microorganisms, and the  rest of the molecules  shows good to moderate activity. Keywords: substitute thiazolidine, microwave assisted synthesis, minimum inhibitory concentration, antibacterial, antifungal.

A Mini Review on Abies Webbiana Lindl.: A Medicinally Important Plant of India

Poonam Arora, S. H. Ansari, Adil Ahmad

ABSTRACTAbies webbiana is an ayurvedic medicinal plant used in various herbal formulations.  Plant commonly known by name Talispatra, is an important component of Talisadi churna. A. webbiana leaves have been reported as antibacterial and antifungal, mast cell stabilizing, anxiolytic, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-tussive, female antifertility, febrifuge, anti-spasmodic properties, central nervous system (CNS) depressant actions and are effective against hyperglycemia. Its leaves are mainly used in ayurvedic preparations used for respiratory disorders. A number of phytoconstituents including Monoterpenes (from essential oil), flavonoids, biflavonoid glycosides, phytosterols, amino acids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, lipids, triterpenoids, steroids and diterpene glycosides are presnt in plant. The plant morphology resembles very much to T. baccata, an important source of taxanes, Even though the medicinal properties and chemical constituents of selected plants are different, their common name and morphology causes confusion in their identity. Keywords:

Ocular Morbidity in Population of Uttarakhand

Bhawna Pant, Dr. Prashant Mathur, Dr. Yogesh Joshi

ABSTRACTThe visual system is the portion of the central nervous system through which human organism is able to see. Eye is very sensitive organ of our system so the care is very important. The task of the visual system is a big one. This system must have an almost innumerable amount of available information and extract only the useful information. Most important special sense in human being is the vision. For normal physical, mental, psychological development and education, vision should be normal. The aim of this review is to evaluate the ocular morbidity in the population of Uttarakhand. This study is a literature review of published studies from 2013 to 2017, held in the different journal and article and websites. Refractive error was the commonest ocular morbidity followed by disorders of conjunctiva, congenital malformations of eye, disorders of eyelid, lacrimal system and orbit, injury of eye and orbit, superficial injury of eye, disorders of sclera, cornea, iris and ciliary body, disorders of choroid and retina and presence of functional implant. Most common complaint among children was watering of the eye followed by discharge from eyes, redness of eye and headache, diminished vision, itching and inability to see clearly in dim light. Prevalence of ocular morbidity was significantly associated with age. Commonest causes of injury were contact lens wear, road traffic accidents, sports playing & recreational activities and occupational. Delay in presentation was associated with complications. Stable intervention programs targeting refractive errors, allergic conjunctivitis, infections of lid and adnexa and trauma are used to decrease the burden of ocular morbidity. Formulation and Evaluation of Antihypertensive Bilayer Tablet

Ganesh Deokate, Deshmukh MT, Shete RV

ABSTRACTThe present research work was carried out to Formulate and evaluation of Bilayer tablet dosage form for the treatment of Hypertensions. The objective of this study to compare the specific characteristics of Olmesartan midoxomil [Angiotensin II receptor antagonist] and Hydrochlorothiazide [Thiazide Diuretics] in order to design stable formulation. It can be concluded that Olmesartan Midoxomil [Angiotensin II receptor antagonist] and Hydrochlorothiazide [Thiazide Diuretics] were successfully formulated in combination as a Bilayer tablet form with Crosscarmellose sodium, Lactose monohydrate and microcrystalline cellulose PH101 for immediate release of both drugs. Both drugs were found to be stable in Bilayer tablet formulation and were found to be stable up to 6 months. This bilayer tablet dosage form increases the stability which may reduce loss and cost of formulation. It improves the benefits of producer, retailer and patients Keywords: Thiazide Diuretics, Bilayer tablet
