Nanogel and its Utilization in Cosmeceuticals

Manisha Sharma, Brijesh Ojha, Azmi Khan, Madhu Gupta

In global market the demand for cosmeceuticals have shown an appreciable amount of enhancement over the past few years, especially the novel technology is more explored by the researchers as well as the marketers. Nanotechnology provides a wide platform for innovation and variation, the nanocosmeceuticals have shown an amplifiable amount of growth. Nanocosmeceuticals such as nanogels, nanoemulsions, liposomes, niosomes, solid lipid nanoparticles etc. have been used widely due to targeted delivery of the active ingredient, modification in shape, size, colour, penetration into the skin, controlled release delivery of the actives and much more. In global market there are a lot many Nanocosmeceuticals based products exist. Especially, Nanogels are three dimensional polymer network systems and they  provides favorable characteristics to formulate, incorporate & fabricate hydrophilic as well as hydrophobic formulations which are required in many cosmeceuticals products. Nanogels can easily replace the conventional cosmeceuticals due to substantial amount of benefit which it provide such as their stimuli responsive behavior, pH responsive mechanism of drug release, small particle size, high water imbibing capacity , tremendous bio compatibility. The various applications of the nanogels in cosmeceuticals has been discussed in this review along with the general properties of the nanogel.

Acne Treatment by Nanomedicine Approach

Monika Targhotra, Neha Raina, Madhu Gupta

Acne is one of the most common disorders that dermatologists and other health care providers treat. Although it most often affects adolescents, it is not uncommon in adults and can also be seen in children.Acne is a tenacious incendiary human skin syndrome, mainly defined at particular areas of skin characterized by microcomedones, comedones, nodules, pustules, itchiness, as well as invasive scar mainly on different parts of the body. Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of pilosebaceous unit that occurs for chronic periodas a result of increased sebum production induced by androgen, altered keratinisation, inflammation, and bacterial colonisation of hair follicles on the face, neck, chest, and back by Propionibacterium acnes. Different nano-advancement techniques like vesicular, colloidal drug delivery system have been discussed. These systems can be useful in scheming a novel delivery with low dose treatment for the cure of acne vulgaris. The current review focused on the better nanotechnological system that can be used in future for better and effective treatment of acne.

Management of Primary Dysmenorrhoea by Dry Cupping and Herbal Unani Drug

Kaenat Zahra, Abdull, Razia Shaheen

Primary dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual cramps with high prevalence rate is responsible for the highest incidence of absenteeism resulting in loss of working hours. Thus, proper treatment is essential to over the hardship, the objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Dry Cupping with Herbal Unani drug in the management of Primary Dysmenorrhoea.  A randomized, standard controlled clinical trial was conducted in OPD of Deoband Unani Medical College & Research Centre (DUMCH-RC),Saharanpur, UPfrom August 2014 to February 2016. Diagnosed case of primary dysmenorrhoea aged between 12-30 years were included. A total of 60 subjects were assigned randomly to the interventions. The test group A (n=20) received 3gm of herbal drug namely hulba(Trigonella foenumgraecum) twice daily from day 1 to day 3 of menstrual cycle. The test group B (n=20) received same dose of hulba with dry cupping. For hijamah three medium cups were applied below the umbilicus for 15 minutes on day 1 and day 3 of menstruation. Group C (n=20) is controlled group which received standard drug mefanamic acid, 500 mg twice daily for same duration as the test drug. These interventions were given for three consecutive cycles. The results were analyzed and compared statistically by using Analysis of variance (ANOVA), Chi-square or Fisher Exact test to find the significance of study parameters. The inter group comparison showed that group A was equally effective as group B and C (P>0.05), whereas group B was more- effective than group C (P=0.02) in reducing pain intensity. The associated symptoms were also improved in all groups. No adverse drug effects were observed. Dry cupping with hulba was more effective than mefanamic acid in reducing pain intensity and discomfort. Overall improvement were also observed in other associated symptoms. The dry cupping with hulba were found to be more effective in the management of primary dysmenorrhoea. Keywords: Primary dysmenorrhoea; Hulba; Dry Cupping; VAS;

Biosynthesis of Copper Nanoparticles Using Aqueous Ficus Racemosa Extract- Characterization and Study of Antimicrobial Effects

Gaurav Mishra, Vivek Yadav, Dr Alka Saxena

ABSTRACTDevelopment  of  green  nanotechnology  is  generating  interest  of  researchers  toward  ecofriendly  biosynthesis  of nanoparticles. In  this  study,  biosynthesis  of stable copper  nanoparticles were done using Ficus Racemosa  leaf extract.   First  we  prepared leaf extract of  Ficus Racemosa  sanctum in  deionised water. This  extract added  to  0.02 M of copper sulfate solution and we observed the change in color of the solution from colorless to colored solution, this indicates that there is a formation of Cu nanoparticles.  These biosynthesized  Cu nanoparticles were characterized with the help  of UV –Visible Spectroscopy. It was observed that the Ficus Racemosa  leaf extract can reduce copper ions into copper nanoparticles within 8 to 10 min of reaction time.  Thus, this method can be used for rapid and ecofriendly biosynthesis of stable copper nanoparticles. Further, microscopic examination and antimicrobial activity of synthesized nanoparticles was done against several bacteria and fungi.
