A Study On Evaluation of Drug Utilization Pattern in Gynecology Department

ABSTRACTPrescription is one of the most important transaction between the physician and patient. Drug utilization studies are an important tool to estimate disease prevalence, appropriateness of prescriptions and adherence to evidence-based medicine. Drug utilization studies. Rational use of drugs should follow the RIGHT and SANE principles. The main objective of the study is to understand the concept of Drug Utilization during pregnancy and to understand the process for implementing and performing DUE. Also, to examine patterns and factors associated with medications used in pregnancy. Drug utilization plays a major role in implementing health care professional programs. And it can reduce the irrational prescribing patterns. We conducted a single centered observational analysis of adults of pregnant women who are above 18 years prescribed at lalitha super specialties hospital, kothapet, Guntur. Drug utilization during pregnancy is to examine the factors associated with use of medications during pregnancy and improving rational usage of drugs and reducing irrational prescribing patterns. A Total of 71 Patients were enrolled in the present study during the study period. A larger proportion of drugs are prescribed during their 3rd trimesters i.e. 46.99% followed by 2nd and 1st trimesters. The results shows that major classes of drugs that are prescribed during pregnancy are vitamins 26%, Antibiotic 16% and followed by other classes of drugs. This study concludes that rational usage of drugs in gynecological department is essential for the safe and effective therapeutic outcomes. The patient has followed the rational drug use which leads to safe and institutional delivery without any complications. Pregnancy is the period from conception to birth. After the egg is fertilized by a sperm and then implanted in the lining of the uterus, it develops into the placenta and embryo, and later into a fetus. Pregnancy usually lasts 40 weeks, beginning from the first day of the woman’s last menstrual period and divided into three trimesters, each lasting three months. It include sign and symptoms, stages of pregnancy, nutrients required during pregnancy, complication, risk factor, food safety and things to avoid during pregnancy.

Perception of Malaria In Pregnancy and Prevention Practice Among Rural Women of Child Bearing Age (15-49) In Zungur, Bauchi, Nigeria

This study was conducted at Zungur District, Bauchi Local Government Area (LGA) to assess the perception of malaria in pregnancy and prevention practice among rural women of child bearing age (15-49). A cross section survey research design, through the use of questionnaire was used in this study. Three hundred respondents were randomly selected for the study.  The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency distribution and chi square analysis to test the hypothesis. Major findings of the study are the existence of misperception of malaria been caused by mosquito, where 18% of the respondents were undecided and 16% disagreed. 39% of the respondents were undecided, 12% strongly disagreed, while 10% disagreed that malaria in pregnancy is a multidimensional public health problem. Also, two-third of the pregnant women in this study was observed to commenced ANC visits late, mostly after 20 weeks of gestation. Health education, intensification of efforts by government on malaria in pregnancy preventive strategies, and conducting of periodic monitoring and sensitization programmes on malaria in pregnancy preventive strategies by civil society organizations should be employed. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency distribution and chi square analysis to test the hypothesis.
